BREAKING NEWS: Club member, Barbara Caudill is very ill, and in Kaiser hospital in Los Angeles.  This has been tough on her husband, Bob, as well.  Although we are
a-non-sectarian organization, it might help if you said a prayer for Barbara and Bob regardless of your faith or beliefs.

The Club is looking for a new webmaster, effective December 31st or sooner.  This is a good opportunity to have fun, learn, and be creative.  E-mail:

About a year ago, one of our knowledgeable members, Mike Serino, presented a program on mineral identification.  Mike showed us what steps we sometimes have to take to
identify some minerals and rocks.  You remember all that, right?   No, you don't remember all the details?   Well, don't feel like the Lone Ranger, Tonto - there's a heckuva lot of
us who don't remember all the details either.  Here's some help for you, and you can go through each of the steps necessary for identification, and there is even an interactive
presentation too.  Then, when you think you're an "expert", there's even a self-test.

Right on cue -  We received the following photos from a non-member who made an unidentified find - right here in Santa Clarita.

Do you know what this is?   Can you identify this material?

So far, here's the guesses:  It looks like calcite with an outside chance it's selenite.
